FAQ

How many crafting materials are in Breathedge 2?
Sixteen are verified in Early Access build 0.8: Metal, Aluminum, Plastic, Wires, Duct Tape, Fabric, Alcohol, Ice, Nutriworm, Oxyworm, Refined Metal, Rubber, Glass, Light Bulbs, Titanium, and Electric Tape.
Why are some recipes locked in the crafting menu?
Most non-tool recipes unlock automatically the first time you pick up a key ingredient — Fabric, Oxyworm, Alcohol, Refined Metal, a Light Bulb, or a Painted Corpse. Story progress unlocks the rest; keep salvaging and the menu fills in.
What is the most important material chain early?
Metal into Refined Metal. Refined Metal gates the mid-chapter upgrades, and its first pickup unlocks the Gas Tank recipe. Prioritize it over stacking consumables.

What materials are in Breathedge 2?

Sixteen crafting materials exist in Early Access build 0.8. They come from salvaging the environment — wreck hulls, debris fields, and the crates scattered around your starting area:

MaterialWhat it’s used for
MetalStarter tools (Crowbar, Thumper), Purified Oxygen, early repairs
AluminumCutter, Twister, Backpack, Gas Tank — the workhorse of mid-tier crafts
PlasticCutter, Thumper, Twister, Backpack, Flashlight
WiresTwister, Gas Tank, Flashlight
Duct TapeTwister and most mid-chapter repairs

Where do materials come from?

Three sources cover everything in Chapter 1:

  1. Wreck salvage. The debris fields around the Outskirts hold Metal, Aluminum, Plastic, and the rest of the raw stock — the first region is dense with wrecks precisely so your early loops stay short.
  2. Tool-extracted materials. The Cutter harvests the Cardboard and Foam that raw salvage doesn’t — both feed the suit patches at the train Wardrobe. That one tool is why it’s the first craft we recommend.
  3. Creature drops. Oxyworm comes from Oxyworm nests; plan a dedicated visit rather than hoping a passing rock yields one. The oxygen guide folds nest runs into trip planning.

Which pickups unlock recipes?

Six ingredients double as unlock keys — the first time each enters your inventory, a recipe appears in the crafting menu:

First pickupUnlocksRecipe
OxywormPurified Oxygen2× Oxyworm, 1× Metal, 1× Ice
FabricMedkit1× Alcohol, 2× Fabric
AlcoholAlcohol2× Ice, 1× Nutriworm
Refined MetalGas Tank4× Wires, 2× Refined Metal, 2× Rubber, 4× Aluminum
Light BulbFlashlight2× Wires, 2× Plastic, 2× Glass, 1× Light Bulb
Painted CorpseBackpack4× Aluminum, 2× Plastic, 4× Titanium, 4× Electric Tape

Which stock-ups actually matter?

Two supplies are consumed faster than they’re found: Duct Tape and especially Electric Tape, which nearly every major train repair and the Backpack demand. Whenever a salvage run has spare capacity, haul tape. Metal keeps flowing naturally, but tape hoarding is the difference between a quick suit patch and a stalled evening.
