FAQ

Is Breathedge 2 a sequel or a remake?
It's a direct sequel. Breathedge 2 continues the story of the ordinary Man and his immortal chicken in a new part of the galaxy, and launched into Steam Early Access on August 31, 2026.
How long is the current Early Access content?
Chapter 1 and one large exploration region are available at launch. The developer estimates a 16–20 month Early Access period, with new areas, vehicles, planetary surface content, and base building planned on the roadmap.
Do I need to finish side quests before advancing the story?
No. Side content like the Attendant repair (body, head, and arm parts), ticket booth jobs, and collectibles can all wait — the story advances without them.
What happens when I finish Chapter 1?
Chapter 1 ends at its Early Access cutoff after the jammer sequence. More chapters arrive as free updates during Early Access.

What do I do first in Breathedge 2?

You wake at the Station Outskirts next to a damaged train car. Before anything else, get that train running — it is the closest thing to a base in Chapter 1 and unlocks recovery, storage, and crafting. The power restoration chain is short: follow the wiring outside the train, retrieve the battery, install it in the External Module (the first landmark outside your starting wreck), and return. Restoring power thaws the train’s frozen systems, and failed scavenging runs stop being full survival-loop resets from that point on.

What should I craft first?

Three tools are unlocked from the start and cheap to make: the Crowbar (2× Metal), the Cutter (4× Aluminum, 2× Plastic, 4× Metal), and the Thumper (4× Metal, 2× Plastic). Craft all three before exploring — the Cutter harvests the insulation materials you’ll need for cold protection, and the Crowbar doubles as your weapon.

Further recipes unlock automatically when you first pick up key ingredients like Fabric, Oxyworm, Alcohol, Refined Metal, or a Light Bulb. Full ingredient tables are in the crafting guide.

How do I survive the cold?

Cold is the first hard environmental gate in Chapter 1. The wreckage beyond the starting area requires 100 Cold Protection, which you patch onto your suit at the Wardrobe inside the train (opposite the vending machine) using Cardboard, Foam, and Teddy Bears. Cardboard is the best baseline material — it has no debuff — while Teddy Bears give the strongest cold resistance but weaken your armor. The exact material math and slot system are covered in the equipment guide.

What is the Chapter 1 story route?

After the train is powered, the communication chain grows into the Three Antennas quest: one damaged station antenna, one beacon, and one old government probe. Completing them triggers “New Coordinates Detected” and pulls you across the cold gate into the DEPOT, a frozen industrial region where your environmental goal becomes raising ambient temperature by repairing Service Warmers.

From there the route runs through the cryogel structures (follow the robots moving through them), into the jammer facility, and finally a shuttle sequence involving parasites and alkaline solution. Area-by-area details are in the locations guide.

What can I skip in Chapter 1?

Everything optional. The launch-week consensus for new players:

ContentVerdict
Attendant repair (body/head/arm)Optional side quest — the arm is tiny and the longest search; don’t hold the story hostage to it
Ticket booth jobsDeferrable
Small Engines & Oxyworm NestsDeferrable collectible loops
Facility locker cleanupGrab what’s on your route, skip the rest
Over-farming insulation past 100 Cold ProtectionUnnecessary — 100 is the only threshold you need
