FAQ

Do I have to pay for updates during Early Access?
No. RedRuins has stated that all updates during Early Access will be free. New chapters, locations, characters, and enemies arrive as free updates; only the eventual full-release price for new buyers will be higher.
When is the full release?
There is no date. The developers have not set a strict deadline and estimate Early Access will last 16 to 20 months from the August 31, 2026 launch — which puts the full release somewhere in late 2027 to early 2028.
What is in the game right now?
The full first story chapter: numerous locations, activities, enemies, and storyline moments, plus 39 achievements, crafting, and base-upkeep systems. The current version is described by the developers as fully playable.

What you get in Early Access today

The August 31 launch build contains the complete first story chapter. The store page’s own words: “The current version of Breathedge 2 is fully playable and contains the first major story chapter with numerous locations, activities, enemies, and storyline moments.”

Concretely, that means:

It is a single-player game throughout — the multiplayer status guide covers why that is a design decision, not a gap.

Why the developers chose Early Access

RedRuins’ stated reason, from the Early Access Q&A:

“To build a game of the scale and quality we envision, we need feedback from players. Early Access is a great opportunity to hear your thoughts, conduct experiments, and improve the game together with the community.”

That word “experiments” is worth taking seriously as a buyer: systems may change during Early Access, and articles on this wiki — including this one — carry a game-version badge showing what they were verified against.

The 16–20 month plan

The developers have not set a strict deadline. Their estimate: Early Access lasts 16 to 20 months, roughly landing the full release between late 2027 and early 2028.

What they have committed to on the record:

  • Every update during Early Access is free. Chapters, locations, characters, enemies, and storyline twists arrive as free major updates.
  • The full version will be “bigger and richer in every way” — the roadmap on the store page previews what’s coming rather than gating it behind paid DLC.
  • The price will rise as major updates ship; the Early Access price is the lowest the game will ever cost. The release date guide has the current pricing.
  • A personal spaceship with warp jumps, vehicles, and building are full-version plans — the current chapter runs on your wrecked train as a mobile hub.

How your feedback shapes the game

The developers run feedback through three official channels:

  1. Discord and the Steam Community Hub — the primary discussion spaces
  2. Surveys — collecting ideas and suggestions periodically
  3. The in-game bug reporter — Esc → Report a Bug, which can attach your save file directly (contact: info@breathedge.com)

The first two weeks set the tone: five hotfixes (0.8.5 through 0.8.9) addressed physics bugs, balance, ultrawide resolutions, gamepad settings, quest blockers, and a full re-record of the Suit’s English voiceover — details in the patch notes tracker. For a live view of how long the ride is, the how-long guide estimates chapter lengths against the roadmap.

What this wiki tracks

Every update article in the updates section carries the game version it describes. When a hotfix changes survival math — as 0.8.6 did when it reduced food, water, and fatigue drain by 15% in standard mode — the affected guides get re-verified and their last-updated date moves. That is the deal here: no article pretends to be more current than it is.
