How does Cold Protection work in Breathedge 2?
Cold Protection is a stat on your spacesuit, and the map makes you care about it fast: the open world is freely explorable, but farther areas are colder, and the wreckage past the starting zone is the first hard gate. The journal objective says it plainly — “Raise Cold Protection to 100” — and 100 is the only threshold Chapter 1 checks. You raise the stat by patching insulation materials onto your suit at the Wardrobe inside the train, the fixture opposite the vending machine.
Which materials raise Cold Protection?
Three materials patch your suit in the early areas, each harvested with the Cutter:
| Material | Cold resistance | Drawback | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cardboard | Good | None — pure buff | First piece in the train station, just behind the NPC; more spots nearby |
| Foam | Moderate | None reported | Yellow rectangular pieces on the floors of space platforms — easy to spot |
| Teddy Bears | Best | Weakens your armor against attacks | Random finds during exploration |
Cardboard alone is not enough to cross 100 — you will need at least a few Foam pieces or a Teddy Bear on top of it. Combining cardboard, foam, and one teddy bear comfortably exceeds the threshold.
How do I patch the suit, step by step?
- Collect at least one of the three materials (Cutter in hand — cardboard and foam both need cutting).
- Board the train and find the Wardrobe opposite the vending machine.
- Interact with it and apply the materials of your choice until the suit panel reads 100.
How far does 100 Cold Protection get me?
Past the gate, the cold wreckage opens up and the route continues into the Depot — where the environmental puzzle flips from protecting yourself to warming the region by repairing Service Warmers. One nuance from launch week worth internalizing: cold protection opens cold regions but does nothing for your oxygen budget — a warm route can still be too long.
