Where does every material spawn in Chapter 1?
One large region holds everything in Early Access — the route through it is covered in the Chapter 1 locations guide. This table is the farming view: for each material, where it grows and what harvests it.
| Material | Where to look | Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Metal | Barrels and floating balls all over the Outskirts — the most common salvage | Scrap |
| Ice | Floating balls everywhere in the starting region | Scrap |
| Plastic | Grey orbs in the pipes along platform sides | Scrap |
| Aluminum | Nodes attached to the sides of Outskirts asteroids | Thumper |
| Titanium | Spiky rock formations around Chuck’s Taxi (grid AN 20) | Thumper / Scrap |
| Cardboard | Bundles everywhere, including the starting train platform | Cutter |
| Foam | Puffy yellow rectangles on surfaces and wreckage | Cutter |
| Fabric | Grey rectangles marked with yellow X tape; the earliest sit next to the Attendant | Cutter |
| Wires | Electrical boxes — the red box on the train platform is a reliable early node | Cutter |
| Tape (Duct / Electrical) | Half-broken red pipes on platforms; the label reads “Duct Tape” but registers as Electrical Tape | Cutter |
| Glass | Around glass structures — a glass tunnel sits close to the starting area | No tool |
| Light Bulb | The train tunnel below the platform; red traffic lights in the long yellow tunnels | Twister |
| Refined Metal | The curved orange pipe with a silver cap, reported west around grid AW 23 | No tool |
| Rubber | ~6 grids west of the train station, near the Leader Statue (grid BE 30) | Cutter |
| Techbits | Same west area as Rubber; also broken robots and signs | Twister |
| Nutriworm | Above the water tower near Chuck’s Taxi (grid AN 27) | No tool |
| Oxyworm | Floating groups above the train station platform and near nests | No tool |
| Alcohol | Rare loose loot in containers — brew it from Ice and Nutriworm instead | No tool |
| Battery Cell | Destroy the floating radio reported near grid AW 23; random loot in debris | Scrap |
| Electronics | Electrical boxes; drops from TVs and washing machines in the wreckage | No tool / Scrap |

Which spots are worth a dedicated trip?
Three clusters repay a planned loop more than random drifting does:
- The starting platform and its tunnel. The train platform hands you Cardboard, the red Wires box, and crates; the tunnel below it holds Light Bulbs behind Twister work. It is the shortest full-spectrum loop in the game.
- Chuck’s Taxi. One landmark, three stocks: Titanium spikes, Nutriworms above the water tower, and a limited free oxygen hose that anchors long trips. This is the best mid-early farming anchor on the map.
- The west cold belt. Past the 100 Cold Protection gate, around the Leader Statue: Rubber, Techbits, Refined Metal’s pipe, and the floating Battery Cell radio. Cold-gated, so patch your suit at the Wardrobe first.
Which materials are locked behind tools?
Three tools split the whole table — the full costs and upgrade effects live in the tools guide:
- Cutter unlocks the tape economy: Cardboard, Foam, Fabric, Wires, Rubber, and the red-pipe Tape. Until it’s crafted, more than half the table is untouchable.
- Thumper works the metal deposits: Aluminum and Titanium nodes.
- Twister reaches the rarest pickups: Light Bulbs, Techbits, and endgame stocks.
Where do the strange resources live?
Two oddballs don’t fit the salvage logic:
- Alkaline Solution comes from the mole nests inside the hollow asteroids under the tickets booth near the train station. Fill the Sprayron hose, then fight or drag the moles. Refillable tanks also stand at the shuttle station at the end of the chapter — the same substance the signal jammer finale sends you spraying at parasite burrows.
- Bellyplastic comes from larvae attached to the large creature at the shuttle station (end of Chapter 1) — it’s the suit oxygen-tank material, so it’s an endgame stock, not an early goal.
Oxygen itself refills at the train car, the public station you repair, Oxyworm nests, and the limited hose at Chuck’s Taxi — two Oxyworm plus Metal and Ice brew into a Purified Oxygen worth +120 on the meter.
How do I stock up without wasting trips?
Haul tape. Both tape stocks are consumed faster than they’re found — the materials guide flags them as the two supplies every repair chain demands. Fill spare capacity on every loop: Ice for the terminals, tape from every red pipe, and food from floating crates and vending machines before heading west.
